Tupping

Picture
Mating success has three dimensions; getting the maximum number of ewes mated in the first cycle, reducing the number of ewes that are not mated (esp. two-tooths), maximising multiple conceptions (preferably twins).  This required ewes to seek the ram and rams to attend equally to ewes that may otherwise have been non-preferred.  The effect of our pre-tup inputs of trace elements, minerals and vitamins can be easily seen in changing ewe and ram behaviour.  Ovulation rate and survival of the conceptus are maximised when trace element and vitamin nutrition is very adequate.  Combined, the evidence is readily apparent by the increase or optimisation in scanning % and the reduction in late lambs.

Tupping Products

FROLIC PRE-TUP™
Believe it or not, all rams are discerning and some ewes are shy.  Don’t be concerned; FROLIC PRE-TUP was designed to eliminate rejection for plain ewes and encourage passion in the less forward (this includes two-tooths and hoggets).  Having more ewes mated in the first cycle combined with optimising ovulation rate/ conception rate means more early lambs and this was the original design objective and reason to look beyond just iodine inputs before mating.

FROLIC PRE-TUP is ideally given twice pre-tup; the first dose several weeks (2-4) prior to the rams going out (to switch them on), the second when the rams go out (to turn up the heat!).  Where this is not possible then one drench still supplies the full quota of iodine.  Note that due to the stability of the form of iodine used you can spray FROLIC PRE-TUP on pasture and confine ewes on this to eat it [spread treatment over say 3-4 days, allow for some sprayed to waste].  It is available as a liquid or soluble powder.  If you are contemplating injectable iodine call us to discuss the most optimal time to do this in combination with oral iodine so as to get the best overall benefit.

TUP-UP™
Where you are unable to give FROLIC PRE-TUP by drench or spraying-on (to pasture or feed) another option is TUP-UP which is a free access lick designed for use in the autumn ahead of and during tupping.  Start 4 weeks out (6 weeks out for any lesser ewes) and continue through the first cycle.
