Feed Utilisation
Rumen microbes break down feed to gain energy to live and to reproduce and grow. The by-product of this initial fermentation of feed (acid) is itself the main energy source for the host ruminant animal. The protein in feed is mostly broken down by microbes and built back up into their cells. This microbial protein is a major source of protein for the host ruminant animal. Rumen microbes can use urea as a source of nitrogen, but use it more efficiently when a supply of sugar and amino acids (building blocks of protein) is also concurrently provided. When the nitrogen content of feed limits rumen microbe growth it limits feed digestion and this has a two-fold effect; it limits animal performance AND it limits intake. So our focus when providing a protein or urea based supplement is to un-limit the rumen microbes so they can be more effective at digesting feed. Our experience is that a small difference can be the difference … from going backwards to maintaining, or from maintaining to actually gaining.

Feed Utilisation Products
OLSSON'S PEAK 50 Plus 7% urea
A bypass protein, energy and urea combination block for high performance on feed that is marginal or low in protein and digestibility. The Peak 50 block contains 50% protein meal and 7% urea. In addition to the urea N, this meal contains protein that supplies amino acids to rumen bugs, and also protein that escapes rumen microbe breakdown. Suitable for sheep and growing cattle.
OLSSON'S PEAK 50 no urea
For lambs on their mothers where feed quality is an issue.
OLSSON'S DRY SEASON
A molasses based 10% urea block for maintaining stock grazing poor / drought pasture and stubble. Suitable for sheep and cattle.
OLSSON'S KEG 10
A cultured probiotic 10% urea block designed to encourage rumen microbes and hence digestive efficiency so is especially suitable for supplementing feed of low / very low digestibility. Targeted at cattle but also suitable for sheep.
